7-24-2021 Patience and small progress
I took a little time for myself this morning and got a pedicure. Then I headed over to NHC (the name of the facility). When I got there, I was walking down the hall towards Linda's room and I saw a wheelchair being pushed and coming in my direction and I thought boy, that looks like Linda. And it was!!! It's the first time she's been totally out of bed since this all started a month ago. She looked great and she even talked to me.
They took her to the therapy area and got her actually walking for three steps. Then they took her back to her room. By then, Tricia got there and had more personal things to put in the room so Linda could be surrounded with familiar things.
Linda was getting tired and wasn't talking much at all. But they kept her in the wheelchair for a while.
We were there a few hours and got visited by the speech therapist, the occupational therapist and the physical therapist. We were warned that there would be ups and downs. So the day went from excitement at seeing her out of bed down to worrying about what could happen.
Anyway, we all liked the aggressive approach taken by the facility. As we've been told by many healthcare providers along the way, if Linda does recover, it will take a long, long time and involve only incremental gains every day. There's a chance she will continue to recover, or there's a chance that her recovery will plateau at a certain stage. We'll see what tomorrow brings.
