11-14-21 Linda was looking for a stretcher

Tricia and Ed are out of town for a few days.  So Linda is getting less visits.  I was there this morning until she kicked me out.  But while I was there, she took off in her wheelchair and started going into other people's rooms looking for a stretcher.  I asked her why she wanted a stretcher and she said, "I was brought here on a stretcher so I can leave on a stretcher if I can find one."

12-25-2022 Merry Christmas to all!

(Tricia) Since Linda came home from the hospital in November, it has been much quieter than it was before she went in.  No more physical therapy, very few nursing visits. Hospice started up again two weeks ago, but Linda has turned down most services (such as the bath aide and chaplain). She has been telling us that she wants to rest, so we are giving her that. She does get up in her wheelchair almost every day, which at least gives her a change of scenery. Last Tuesday, we did take Linda to a previously scheduled doctor's appointment with a neurologist specializing in cognitive issues such as brain injury and dementia, at a practice is called the St. Louis Center for Cognitive Health. I almost canceled the appointment, because I didn't think much would come of it. But this was an appointment I had rescheduled after canceling one in July the last time she was in hospice (and I had made that appointment in March-- the joys of American healthcare). 1-1-2022 Linda went on an outing today

 (Marilyn) HAPPY NEW YEAR! Tricia and Ed experimented with taking Linda out today for a trip to their house for lunch.  They came by my house as kind of a drive-by and I took my dog Sassy out to say hello.  We didn't bring her in because we didn't want to test the getting-in-and-out-of-car thing too many times on the first time.  Linda kind of remembered my house but she wavered a little bit.  Tricia said that getting Linda into the car at NHC was smooth and easy.  What a great improvement.  I hope this keeps up.  So it looks like Linda is doing well with mobility but the mental part still needs time.   She still has the need to be contrary even in the face of proof.  When they pulled up in front of my house and I went out to the car to stay hi she tried to say that I wasn't Marilyn.  And she insisted.  LOL! I will enter another blog whenever I get a report from Tricia as to how the rest of the day progressed.

7-25-22 Tough week, better weekend

 (Tricia) Things were not looking good last week--after Linda aspirated as she was eating her soup, the nurses seemed to think that aspiration pneumonia was inevitable. They were, once again, preparing me for the worst. But by now, I should know that I can't jump to conclusions too quickly--Linda has a habit of surprising people. We gave her an ongoing course of Mucinex, at one of the private duty nurse's suggestions, and by the weekend, the gurgle in her breathing had quieted considerably.  So much so that we were actually able to get her to her Saturday morning appointment with the new primary care physician--so, that, at least, was some good news! Making that appointment wasn't without challenge, however--when we tried to get her up for her 11:30 appointment, she absolutely did not want to be woken up. She was yelling out a continuous "No, no, no, no!" as we used the lift to get her into the Broda chair. She begged not to be moved. It was hard to ignore that, b...
